As well as being a
hostel,
ours is a working farm. At the
time of writing we are keeping pigs, goats and chickens,
and growing vegetables (both on the field and in a poly-tunnel), grain,
hay, fruit-trees and staple local food plants such as peas, beans,
marrows. You are welcome to take an interest in our agricultural
activities. We aim to be an ecologically sound, sustainable farm, The
hostel is, however, in a separate building to the active farm parts, so
there's no need to get dirty.
As you will
see from the pictures, the
buildings are built in the traditional Hungarian style: long and thin
with a veranda on the Southern side and no windows to the North. This
maximises cooling in the summer and heating in the winter – we hope
your stay is comfortable and temperate! Aside from living space, we
also have pantries, a stables, a power machine room (e.g., for grinding
grain), a barn, a drinking area with a view over everything, a
smoke-chimney (for preserving), a workshop, pig sties, cool storage and
a wine cellar.
